In this comprehensive travel review, I’ll share my personal experience of visiting Kangra, what makes this place unique, the must-visit attractions, where to stay, what to eat, and how to plan your trip perfectly.

Why I Chose Kangra for My Trip

Living in a fast-paced urban city, I was yearning for a peaceful break — somewhere not overrun by tourists but rich in stories and scenic beauty. After a bit of research and hearing some glowing feedback from friends, Kangra popped up as the perfect destination. Located in Himachal Pradesh, about 200 km from Chandigarh and roughly 450 km from Delhi, Kangra was accessible yet relatively untouched.

I packed my bags and set off on a week-long trip that turned out to be one of the most rejuvenating experiences of my life.

As soon as I entered the Kangra Valley, I was greeted by the majestic view of the snow-clad Dhauladhar ranges. For adventure seekers, Bir-Billing is the paragliding capital of India and just a short drive from Kangra. Although I was a bit nervous, I gave paragliding a try — and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Flying over green valleys with the Dhauladhars in the backdrop was beyond breathtaking.

3. Kareri Lake

For trekkers, Kareri Lake is a high-altitude glacial lake located at about 9,650 feet. The trek to the lake took around 6–7 hours but the views were worth every step. The lake, reflecting the mountains and pine trees, looked like something out of a fairytale.

The people of Kangra are deeply rooted in their culture. I had the opportunity to attend a local fair (Mela), which showcased folk dance, traditional attire, and regional cuisine.
